We use Linux on all our PC&#8217;s and have done so for several years. Therefore we do not need, nor should we be forced to pay for any Microsoft software licenses. This week we focus on Laptops Direct.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Laptops Direct is part of a British-based chain, run by Buy It Direct Ltd. whose sites are mostly registered to an address in Huddersfield:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unit A, Trident&nbsp;Business&nbsp;Park, Leeds&nbsp;Road. Huddersfield, HD2&nbsp;1VA, United&nbsp;Kingdom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or registered to individuals with a few kilometres of there. Basically Laptops Direct is an on-line<em> bucket-shop<\/em> that sells new and refurbished laptops at very reasonable prices. Despite its <em>pile &#8217;em high, sell &#8217;em cheap<\/em> ethos, Laptops Direct also has considerable expertise in the business and good technical knowledge with regard to the inner workings of Laptop PC&#8217;s. So we felt that Laptops Direct it would be a good bet for meeting our computing needs. Its site offers potential customers the ability to ask questions to the pre-sales team via an on-line form. So we did, three times between 2009-07-09 &amp; 2009-07-10. Initially it would not respond. system:-<\/p>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Dear Sir|Madam,<\/pre>\n<p>I have written to your pre-sales team THREE times on<br \/>\n2009-07-09 &amp; 2009-07-10, via:-<br \/>\n<a title=\"Laptps Direct Lenovo 3000C500 page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laptopsdirect.co.uk\/Lenovo_N500__NS774UK\/version.asp?refsource=ldawin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.laptopsdirect.co.uk\/Lenovo_<br \/>\nN500__NS774UK\/version.asp?refsource=ldawin<\/a><br \/>\nand<br \/>\n<a title=\"Laptops Direct's Toshiba M700 Tablet PC page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laptopsdirect.co.uk\/GRADE_A1_-_Toshiba_Portege_M700-13A_Laptop_A1-PPM70E-0QG02DEN\/version.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.laptopsdirect.co.uk\/<br \/>\nGRADE_A1_-_Toshiba_Portege_M700-13A_<br \/>\nLaptop_A1-PPM70E-0QG02DEN\/version.asp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet you have not responded. Please can you explain<br \/>\nwhy you do not want our business?<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>Yours faithfully,<\/p>\n<p>Garfield Lucas.<\/p>\n<p>2009-07-13 Eventually Laptops direct did reply &#8211; though it seems it did not actually read the first three emails in which we made our enquiry perfectly plain. So we responded, repeating the same questions. Its final response did actually improve its penguin ratings. But not much! Seems laptops Direct is actually perfectly prepared to ignore the Microsoft End User License Agreement!<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what happened:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Laptops Direct responded (eventually)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.garfnet.org.uk\/cms\/update-laptops-direct\/\">http:\/\/www.garfnet.org.uk\/joomla\/index.php?<br \/>\noption=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=189&amp;Itemid=331<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Studying its webpages, it seems that Laptops Direct does answer some other customers&#8217; enquires &#8211; providing they are not too complex. Eventually it answered ours. However, it is perfectly happy to ignore Microsoft&#8217;s EULA and even admits this! It does not provide a refund for unwanted Microsoft Windows licenses.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, we will <strong>not<\/strong> be purchasing any computers from Laptops Direct!<\/p>\n<hr>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"small\">If you have been forced to buy a microsoft Windows Vista license against your will, remember that Microsoft&#8217;s own end user license agreement for Vista Home states:-<br \/>\n&#8220;<em>By using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.
