Today we take a little trip back in time to one of the internet’s oldest and most famous memes: “All Your Base”. AKA “All your base are belong to us“, this internet meme was based on a badly translated phrase from the opening scene of a video game called “Zero Wing“. The phrase first appeared on the European release of the 1991 Sega Mega Drive version of the 1989 Japanese arcade game. This is a slightly cleaned-up version of the original.
We actually still have a copy of the original AYB flash presentation tucked away in the GarfNet archives. But unfortunately you need a “flash player” installed in your browser in order to see it. And if you never heard of it, then there is quite a good Wikipedia page on the subject…
