BBC national and local radio DASH streams
These DASH streams may work better than the HLS streams for some people. The conventional wisdom is that HLS is for Apple users and DASH is for Windows and Android. Of course, if you run a modern GNU/Linux operating system, and have installed all the necessary CODECs, then you may use either. In fact, on most devices regardless of their operating systems, you just need to install VLC, if you haven’t done so already. 🙂

About BBC DASH streams
DASH means Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP. Sometimes called MPEG-DASH. It is an adaptive bit-rate streaming technique that enables high quality streaming of media content over the Internet using conventional HTTP web servers. It is similar to Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming), MPEG-DASH works by chopping the content into a sequence of small segments, which are served over HTTP and stitched back together at the receiving end.
We decided to list these DASH streams here as a fall-back position for the next time the BBC decides to break its HLS streams again.
