AI still not all that bright
Creating the main image for this year’s Christmas card was not as straightforward “one-click deal” I hoped it would be. Seems synthetic stupidity is very much alive and kicking in the world of artificial intelligence. Fact is, AI is still not all that bright. In order to create the one successful image we finally chose, I created and discarded in excess of 2000 failures. Some of these failures were actually quite amusing in their own right. Others were just downright strange. the term “hallucination” barely covers it. These include…
- Images with the wrong number of Santas (I asked for just one).
- Or the wrong number of geese (I asked for just one).
- Motorbikes where the handlebars are fitted on the side of the bike instead of the front (just plain weird).
- Lots of pictures of geese with the wrong number of legs. (Somebody should tell the nice lads and lasses at Stable Diffusion that geese usually only have two legs!)
So I saved a few of the weirder examples…
