QtDMM news from its new maintainer

Following on from our recent article concerning how to install QtDMM on modern Debian systems, we just received rather exciting news from its new maintainer, regarding its future developments. 

I’m the new main developer of QtDMM. With that, new steam is in the development.

  • The project moved to a new home, https://github.com/qtdmm/QtDMM (transferred from tuxmaster/QtDMM), to give it a solid base for the future.
  • There’s also a new project website, https://qtdmm.de, with a “Docs & Dev” page covering build-from-source how-tos for different operating systems like Linux, macOS and Windows.
  • QtDMM just published its first release candidate in years – 26.1-rc1 – with a ready-made Linux AppImage and a Windows installer, so building from source isn’t the only way in any more. rc1 has some minor issues, but they will be resolved in the final 26.1.
  • A lot of new multimeters are supported now over several interfaces (RS232, Bluetooth LE, USB-HID, sigrok), including Bluetooth LE devices like the budget UNI-T UT60BT and various Victron gadgets.
  • In the future we want to be back in the main distro app repositories, so everybody can use QtDMM easily.
  • Here are 2 screenshots of upcoming QtDMM 26.1, showing the new DMM display, table data view and the alarms feature.

You can download a working “AppImage” from the maintainer’s GitHub. 

I just did that and I am pleased to report that not merely does it work, and work well, it actually supports my faithful Bryman BM869s DMM. In fact, it seems to work very well indeed – and I added a screengrab, just to prove the point.
